In August 2016, we completed a 12-day backpacking trip around Mt. Rainier. As a family of 9. It was an adventure, and a challenge. Because of blood sugar issues and concerns about whether or not our 3 & 1/2 year old could finish, we considered quitting.
I’m so glad we decided to keep going. It was an INCREDIBLE trip, and now I have a video to prove it. 😉
This week I compiled and edited the video footage and photos… and wow (!!!) my eyes have been opened to the time and focus that goes into video editing. Why did it take so long? Well, one of our two SD cards was corrupted, and it took nearly 2 months to recover some of the data, then Doug worked on a video and was nearly done, when his computer crashed and we completely lost that file. We both felt discouraged and haven’t touched it for at least a month.
Finally, last week, I took the files to make this video.
Now we (finally!) have a Wonderland Trail video of our own. 🙂 I hope you can set aside an hour and enjoy some of these special memories, with us. After Fisher’s birth, this was a highlight of 2016 for our family.
Come, spend an hour with our family on the Wonderland Trail, and let me know what you think. ~Jess
This will be such a lovely memory for your children! Bravo!!!
Inspiring!!!
What an epic trip! It takes a lot of planning to do what you did. I am so Amazed that you did this 6 months pregnant. You inspired me to do hard things! Thank you for sharing..I am showing this to my kids for home school tomorrow. 🙂
🙂 Yay! This makes me happy!!
And it was tough, being pregnant. That’s one reason why I thought about leaving the trail. My blood sugar would go from fine, to TANKED. Once I started carrying my snacks with me… rather than getting behind everyone, struggling to catch up, and being completely emotional and sad and hopeless, LOL, feeling like I would NEVER get up to where they were so I could get my snack… things got better. 😉
We did talk with my midwife about it in advance, and because I have no pre-term labor risk, it probably made things easier for me in that regard than some people. I drank tons of water and don’t have issues with swelling, etc. Anyway, yeah, it was a challenge, but this was BY FAR my healthiest pregnancy. I’m so glad to have done it. 🙂
All 6 Ws just watched this together. So proud of you guys for doing this!
Awesome, thanks for sharing this with us!
